In this work, the implementation of a new comonomer vinyl neodecanoate into the free radical high-pressure polymerization with ethene was investigated. The following four topics were of interest, always with a focus on having data and knowledge at process temperatures and pressures: • thermophysical properties (compressibility, density, thermal expansion coefficient, and the change in heat capacity with pressure) of the new comonomer at conditions close to the large-scale process conditions • phase behavior of the co- and terpolymerization system • process safety with the focus on the comonomer’s effect on inherent safety • copolymerization kinetics of vinyl neodecanoate and ethene with a focus on reactivity ratios and transfer to vinyl neodecanoate
